Heights Election: Gonzalez, Buckman Run Again, Skiba Will Challenge

Hasbrouck Heights council candidates filed their petitions to run in the June primary.

Hasbrouck Heights Republican council persons Sonya Buckman and David Gonzalez will seek re-election in November, while former councilwoman Carol A. Skiba plans to run for a council seat on the Democratic ticket.

All three filed their petitions prior to the 4 p.m. deadline Monday for the June 4 primary election.

Buckman and Gonzalez seek third terms on the council. The pair was first elected in 2007 and again in 2010. Gonzalez has served as fire commissioner, as well as streets and sanitation commissioner and Buckman continues to serve as recreation commissioner and is also the council liasion to the library.

Skiba served on the council from 2005 to 2007 as a Democrat. She has sought re-election over the years on the Democratic ticket and also as an Independent.

In 2010 she ran as a Democrat and was defeated by Buckman and Gonzalez. In 2011 she ran for council as an Independent candidate.

The council had been all Republican for a number of years until this past election when Democrat Christian Semenecz unseated one Republican incumbent.

Independent candidates would have until June 4 to file in order to run in the November election.
