Heights Offers Free Paper Shredding Event Nov. 3.

Hasbrouck Heights will once again host a free shredding event for its residents and business owners on Saturday, Nov. 3.

This is the sixth shredding recycling event the borough has done says Bill Spindler, DPW superintendent. To date more than a total of 26,740 pounds of shredding paper have been recycled, says Spindler.

For the past two years the borough has hosted the event once in the spring and once in the fall.  Councilman David Gonzalez, who is liasion to the environmental commission, said Tuesday night he hopes to see 10,000 pounds of paper recycled at this event.

Gonzalez's previous pledges to get in the dunk tank at the Hasbrouck Heights annual street fair the past two years has helped generate attention to the event with the borough reaching its shredding goal last year. The November shredding event last year brought in more than 9,000 pounds. Gonzalez told the public Tuesday regardless of how much is yielded next week he will be sure to get in that tank next spring.

The mobile shredding unit from Atlantic Coast Fibers will be stationed at the Central Avenue Park lot right across from Borough Hall from 9 a.m to noon on Saturday, Nov. 3. Residents can bring once again bring their sensitive documents to be shredded and recycled safely.

No hardcover books, magazines, newspapers, photographs or x-rays will be accepted at these shredding events.
