Old Sylvester's Demolition Has Begun [VIDEO]

Old building will be replaced by four 2-family homes.

Demolition of the decades old restaurant building, known in recent years as Sylvester's and before that the Old Homestead, started this week.

The old building on Terrace Avenue is being taken down to make way for four 2-family homes which received approval from the borough's Zoning Board back in January.

The property had been dormant since 2006. The buildig had begun to deterioriate over the years and the property has been on the borough's master plan as an area in need of improvement.

The developer had previously agreed to keep a piece of the building to give to the borough for historical purposes. Plans may include putting a memorial to the old site at Woodland Park.
