Report Shows Little Growth at Heights Middle School
Largest improvement was seen at the Grade 8 level in language arts, math and science on the NJASK, according to state figures.
Based on the recent figures release by the state in the School Report Card for school year 2011-2012, NJASK test scores show some small improvements in academic performance at the middle school level.
Compared to the school's peer group - other schools with similiar demographics and class size - Hasbrouck Heights Middle School ranks 59percent above the rest. The school ranks higher compared to state average at 64 percent.
As per the chart below there was not much growth shown in the area of language arts. Proficiency level increased slightly from 67 percent in 2010-2011 to 69 in 2011-2012. There is a slight decline in the percentage of students who were deemed advanced proficient and a light increase in those that are considered partially proficient in this area of study.

The trend is more or less the same in the area of math. The percentage of students ranked profienct changed very little, a small decrease from 51 percent to 50 percent over the past year.
Charts below show the percentage of students who are ranked advanced proficient, proficient and partially proficienty by grade.

Grade 8 students showed the most improvement in all three subjects.
In one year the percentage of students proficient in language arts increased from 68 percent to 82.
In math the percentage of proficient students went up from 43 to 54 percent in one year.
In science the percentage of students proficient in the subject grew from 59 percent o 62 percent.
