Runners/Walkers Ready for Height's First 5K Run Sunday

The event will raise funds for local scholarships and the Seeing Eye Foundation. Dozens of vendors will be on hand at annual Health Fair.

Eighty-one people have already signed up for the first annual Hasbrouck Heights 5K run/walk this Sunday.

The event is being held in part with the borough's Health Department annual Health Fair. The Board of Health and the borough's Junior Womans Club are co-sponsoring the event which will raise monies for scholarships the Juniors will present to graduating seniors. A portion will also be donated to the Seeing Eye charity.

The event is set for Sunday, April 28 with registration beginning at 8 a.m. at Central Avenue  near Borough Hall. Participants can sign up at the event or can still do so by filling out the form (see attached PDF) and returning it to the Health Department at Borough Hall.

Fee for pre-registration is $20, $25 the day of the event and $15 for children under 18. Participants will receive a T-shirt and post-race refreshments will be provided.

Medals will be awarded to the top three male and female runners in the following categories: 18 and under, 19-29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49 and 50 and over.

The run/walk begins at 9 a.m.. The route will begin on Central Avenue travelling west to Oak Grove, south along Oak Grove to Henry, east on Henry to Terrace. The route continues north along Terrace to Lawrence Avenue back to Oak Grove and Central. The finish line is at Borough Hall on Central and Boulevard. 

Laurie French, of the borough's Health Department says numerous vendors have signed up for the Health Fair which will held in the senior center from 9 a.m. to noon.
