School District Conducts Kindergarten Registration and News From Borough Departments

Weekly column provides updates from departments in town

Week to week Patch will provide updates and information from the various departments in the borough.

The t will conduct Kindergarten registration Monday, Feb. 14 at the Hasbrouck Heights High School Eglow Media Center located on LaSalle Avenue from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m.

According to board of education policy, children should attain the age of five on or before Oct. 1 of the year in which he/she applies for entrance. The following original documents must be brought by parents for proof of residency: property tax bill, deed, contracts of sale, leases, mortgages, signed letter from landlord.   

Accepted forms of identification include: drivers license, passport and employee ID.

Medical requirements are also needed to register which include:

1.     Immunization form, an official document with the doctor’s signature, address and phone number. Evidence of Mantoux tuberculin skin testing within the past six months for students entering the school system for the first time, if born in a high TB incidence country.

2.     Physical form which must have the date of the visit written on the form, doctor’s signature, address and phone number.

3.     Dental form which must have the date of the visit written on the form, doctor’s signature, address and phone number.

4.     Health history questionnaire

5.     Authorization to exchange information form

Forms can be obtained via the district’s web site.

In other news around town:

  • Department of Public Works
    Councilman David Gonzalez reminds residents that there will be no garbage collection for Zone 2 Friday, Feb. 11 and Zone 1 on Monday, Feb. 21. Officials reported that the satellite recycling container located in the Central avenue lot was busier than ever this past Saturday.
  • Tax department
    The end of the 10-day grace period for first-quarter taxes was Thursday, Feb. 10.
  • Health department
    The department reminds residents that 2010 dog licensed expired Jan. 31 and asks residents to notify the department if they no longer have a dog so records can be updated. Last year the department issued more than 500 licenses and collected more than $6,000 in annual fees.
  • Fire department
    Last month the fire department responded to 47 calls and ambulance members responded to 117 calls. Fire officials have also reminded residents to park on one side of the street to allow emergency vehicles to get by and to clear any fire hydrants that they may see blocked by snow.
