Streetscape Work to Boulevard Planned for Summer

Construction to two streets along the Boulevard, Jefferson up to Hamilton, is now said to begin in a few weeks and completed by September.

Work to refurbish the next two streets on the Boulevard slated for the ongoing streetscape project is now said to begin in the coming weeks and completion is expected just before school starts in September.  

Borough Engineer Ken Job told the mayor and council this week the project hasn’t begun yet as public service is working to determine if their electric junction boxes will need to be replaced. He explained that ADA requirements may result in the need to change the elevation of the boxes and a definite answer is needed before they can begin ripping up the sidewalks. The Boulevard from Washington up to Jefferson already had the upgrades done about two years ago. The project is being done in phases, with most funding coming from the state through .

The borough hopes to continue beautifying the Boulevard all up to the circle at Passaic Avenue provided additional grants will be awarded. The borough has already received funding towards phase five, the Boulevard from Hamilton to Walter.

The borough hopes to apply for a grant for phase six next when applications are available, which Job said will likely by late August.
