Driver Who Stopped For Pedestrians Attacked At Jersey Shore, Police Say

LAKEWOOD, NJ — A man who stopped his car for pedestrians crossing the street was rear-ended then beaten by another driver, police said.

The attack happened at the intersection of First Street and Clifton Avenue about 1:20 p.m. on Sunday, Lakewood police said. Callers reported the incident as a fight, police said.

The victim told officers he was stopped to let pedestrians cross the street when another vehicle hit his vehicle from behind, police said.

When the victim got out of his vehicle to talk with the other driver, he said the other driver grabbed him, threw him to the ground, and dragged him along the road, he told police. The victim suffered injuries to is his ribs, neck, knees and face, police said.

Afterward, the other driver got back in his vehicle and took off, police said. He was last seen headed north on Clifton Avenue, police said.

Emergency Medical Services evaluated the victim at the scene, police said.
