HOBOKEN, NJ — The clothing brand Abercromie & Fitch has placed signage in the windows of a longtime Hoboken steakhouse site on Washington Street, and revealed when they plan to open.

The clothing chain says they'll open this summer. The store will be about an eight-block walk from the Hoboken Train Terminal.

The news of the new location was revealed last year via a LinkedIn post from a Jersey City real estate broker.

"It was great working with Hilary Sievers and her team from JLL to bring Abercrombie & Fitch Co. to Washington Street in Hoboken!" wrote Bobby Antonicello Jr. "A&F will occupy the entire ground floor of the newly constructed Hoboken House on the corner of 3rd and Washington."

The owners of the longtime steakhouse Arthur's originally promised it would return someday when it closed in early 2022.

But they sold off all of its fixtures later that year.

Abercrombie & Fitch clothing was so popular in the late 1990s that it even rated a mention in the LFO summer song called "Summergirls": "I like girls who wear Abercrombie & Fitch..."

Last year, local real estate agent and former Councilman Tony Soares responded on social media to negative comments about the chain store opening in the mile-square city.

"Arthurs is gone [and] the owners sold the building," he wrote. "They weren’t pushed out. A local resident bought the building, spent millions redeveloping it, restoring the facade and creating more housing above. I’m glad it will remain retail at street level. There are currently only 1 other store in downtown Hoboken (Madewell ) for a guy/ person to buy a pair of reasonably priced jeans, sweaters, boxer shorts or some t-shirts in a pinch."

The address is 237 Washington St. Do you know of a business opening or closing in Hoboken or Jersey City? Tell it to Patch.
