All Eyes On The Fourth Ward

Special elections coming up in November, but already on the mind of many Hobokenites.

It's true what they say: it's always election season in Hoboken.

And although the Fourth Ward elections aren't until November, that race seems to be heating up.

At the moment, incumbent and Hudson County employee Michael Lenz and newcomer Tim Occhipinti are the only two candidates—you may have seen them around town and at events—fighting for the seat.

story titled "Something new from old Hoboken" on PolitickerNJ by former Hoboken reporter Timothy Carroll, takes a look at Lenz's political past. According to Carroll, this is not the first time Lenz is eyeing the Fourth Ward seat.

According to Carroll's story, Lenz wanted to become Parking Director in 2001, threatening that if he wouldn't get the job, he'd run against Chris Campos in the Fourth Ward. Campos won that year's election.

A year later, in 2002, Lenz was appointed by then-Mayor David Roberts to be the city's Chief Financial Officer.

In 2005, Lenz appeared on Hoboken's political scene again, this time backing Carol Marsh's unsuccessful mayoral run. Lenz also backed Marsh when she ran for Assembly, an election she lost to current Assemblyman Ruben Ramos Jr.

Lenz was appointed to the Fourth Ward seat last year, after then-council president Dawn Zimmer became acting mayor in the wake of Peter Cammarano's arrest and resignation.
