As Snow Blankets Hoboken, People Make The Best Of It
It's here: Hoboken's first snowstorm of 2010
It's real this time: the dreaded blizzard Hoboken has been ready for since the weekend is here. As steady snow kept falling all throughout the morning and afternoon, and freshly shoveled sidewalks turned icy again, most people tried to stay indoors.
The National Weather Service reported around 10 o'clock this morning 3.1 inches of snow had fallen in the Mile Square.
Jonathan Buonfiglio, 30, who works for the City's Department of Environmental Services started working the snowblower in front of City Hall around 7:30 a.m., wearing a long sleeve shirt, a hoodie and a NorthFace jacket. (he said he wasn't cold)

"We just have to keep on top of it," Buonfiglio said. And that may prove to become more difficult as the day and night go on.
The National Weather Service reported that there could be as many as 9 inches of snow in Hoboken this afternoon, and another possible 5 inches tonight.

Hoboken Public Schools and City Hall have been closed all day. The only City Department working has been environmental services, to take care of snow removal.
Hoboken Politicians are trying to communicate tips to the people of Hoboken about how to handle the snow, through Twitter.
"Hoboken residents looking for parking: Garage D and Midtown G. are nearly full. Residents in need should go to Garage B, (2nd & Hudson)," advised Councilman-at-Large David Mello.
Mayor Dawn Zimmer wrote that people should move their cars, because the city would be towing cars from snow routes. "This is a serious storm," she wrote also.
PATH trains were running normally all through the day Wednesday. New Jersey Transit suffered some delays and cancellations. (For more information on your specific bus- or trainline, check http://www.njtransit.com)
And those staying in Hoboken spent some time this morning shoveling sidewalks, a frustrating endeavor that left most people with red-nosed, cold faces.
One piece of sidewalk on Wednesday morning, on the corner of Second and Bloomfield, was especially clean Wednesday.
"I have a good method," said Mercedes Colyer, who has witnessed 32 winters in Hoboken. She said she throws salt on the sidewalk the night before the storm—and lots of it—and then the next morning she can just use a broom to get rid of the snow.
She said she was the first one out in the snow at 5:30 a.m., walking her dog Lizzie.
As she stopped shoveling, she looked around the sidewalk, quite pleased with the result. "See how good this looks?"
