Boys and Girls Club Pool Re-Opens, National Night Out This Week in Hoboken

On Tuesday, The Hoboken Police Department will hold its annual National Night Out event, intended to raise awareness of police programs and encourage community-police interaction. This year's event begins with a 4 p.m. proclamation ceremony at City Hall followed by a parade to Church Square Park, where events and activities for kids and families are scheduled until 8:30 p.m. The night is being dedicated in memory of longtime city employee and volunteer Freddie Moret, who died of complications from asthma earlier this year while vacationing in Italy.
The Boys and Girls Club pool, which opened last Tuesday only to close again after springing a leak the following day, is set to re-open Monday.
The pool, which opened two weeks later than anticipated on Tuesday due to problems encountered while replacing the old Sandy-damaged pool, was set to undergo repairs Saturday. It's open to the public Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., until Aug. 30.
Traffic and parking restrictions kick in Tuesday as road repaving work that's expected to hinder access to and from residences and businesses in all four corners of the city begins.
Construction work begins Tuesday on 12th Street between Willow Avenue and Bloomfield Street, and Madison Street between 11th Street and 15th Street. On Wednesday, paving projects on Monroe Street between 3rd Street and 6th Street, and 4th Street between Hudson Street and Sinatra Drive are expected to kick in.
Hoboken City Council convenes Wednesday at 7 p.m. for a regularly scheduled meeting. The agenda is available on the city website.
The second of four public forums on Vision 20/20, the controversial public housing revitalization plan, is set for Friday morning at 10. The meeting will be held at 220 Adams St.
Hudson Restaurant Week continues this week in Hoboken. Forty-seven participating restaurants throughout the county (22 are in Hoboken) will offer prix fixe lunches from $13 to $15 and dinners from $25 to $38 through Friday. Mayor Dawn Zimmer holds office hours Monday in her City Hall office from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Tuesday
The Hoboken Downtown Farmers’ Market is open every Tuesday from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Washington Street between Newark Street and Observer Highway.
Family Fun Nights continue with a 7 p.m. musical performance by Music Makes Me, an educational music and movement program designed for kids at Shipyard Park, located at 13th Street and McFeeley Drive.

Wednesday
All are invited to a free outdoor screening of "Mary Poppins" at Pier A Park, located on 1st Street and Sinatra Drive as part of the city's weekly Movies Under the Stars series. Wednesday's show begins at 8:15 p.m. For the best seating, come early and bring a blanket or low-back chair. You may bring food, but alcohol consumption is not permitted and subject to a fine.

If you get to Wednesday's screening earlier, Preschool of Rock is performing at 7 p.m., followed by a demo from My Gym Hoboken at 7:30 p.m.
Thursday
Residents can grab fresh produce at the Hoboken Uptown Farmers’ Market, which is open every Thursday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the corner of 13th and Hudson streets.
Hoboken's Concerts in the Park series continues with performances by a number of female-fronted bands including The Fave, Abbe Rivers, Alice Genese, Karyn Kuhl Band, and The Pretty Babies at 7 p.m. at Sinatra Park Amphitheater, located on Sinatra Drive between 4th and 5th streets.
