City Budget Hearing, Baby Parade This Week in Hoboken

After months of deadlock, the Hoboken City Council will convene this Wednesday at 7 p.m. to adopt the 2013 budget following passage of a budget amendment put forward by Councilman Tim Occhipinti and Councilwoman Theresa Castellano at last week's council meeting.
Other public meetings this week include a Tuesday regular meeting of the Hoboken Board of Education at 7 p.m. at 1115 Clinton St. A meeting agenda has yet to be posted on the district's website.
In state news that affects Hoboken, the New Jersey Assembly is expected to vote this week on bill A-3933, which would permit residential and commercial development on piers in high-risk flood zones. An identical bill has already passed in the state Senate.

An amendment made to the bill last week affords municipalities the option to decide whether they want to permit development on piers in their communities and has made the bill more palatable to Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer, who had strongly opposed its passage.

The Hoboken Public Library is celebrating Gay Pride Month this week with events on Wednesday and Thursday at 6 p.m.
The Wednesday event, Ladies on the Mic, features female performers of all ages. On Thursday, the library hosts a comedy event featuring seven different comedians, including comic Jodie Wasserman, who has appeared on Comedy Central's Premium Blend, BET's Comic View and Last Comic Standing.
Assuming Mother Nature cooperates, the city's numerous outdoor summer series will continue this week with the following schedule:
Monday
The Hudson Shakespeare Company will perform Cyrano de Bergerac at 7 p.m. in Sinatra Park as part of the city's weekly outdoor Shakespeare in the Park series.
Tuesday
Family Fun Nights continue with a 7 p.m. performace by the Garden St. school band at Shipyard Park, located at 13th Street and McFeeley Drive.
Wednesday
Movies Under the Stars continues at Pier A Park with a screening of "Les Miserables" at 9 p.m.
Thursday
Residents can grab some fresh produce at the Hoboken Uptown Farmers’ Market, which is open every Thursday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the corner of 13th and Hudson streets.
Hoboken's Concerts in the Park series continues with a 7 p.m. performance by contemporary rock band the Gordys Sinatra Park Ampitheater, located on Sinatra Drive between 4th and 5th streets.
Friday
Mile Square Theatre's production of Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night" opens on Friday at 8 p.m. in Sinatra Park, at the corner of 4th Street and Sinatra Park Drive. The show will be performed Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 8 p.m. for the next three weeks — June 28 through July 14 — on the Hudson River waterfront and is free and open to the public.
Saturday & Sunday
Hoboken's 12th Annual Baby Parade, where the city's babies are paraded in their finest attire and parents create mini-floats, will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. on the Waterfront Walkway from Sinatra Park to Pier A Park. Registration for this free event begins at 12:30 p.m.
