Special $300K Lamborghini Will Help Bergen County Police Department Fight Crime
A one-of-a-kind "wrapped" Lamborghini will help a Bergen County police department with a special initiative.

GARFIELD, NJ — A special one-of-a-kind "wrapped" Lamborghini will help a Bergen County police department fight drugs in a new way.
The Garfield Police Department launched a program this week called "Outrun Opioids" with the help of a dressed-up $309,000 Lamborghini donated by a dealership in Paramus.
Garfield Police Chief Joseph Delaney said he and department staff met in early fall to discuss an innovated approach to dealing with dangerous opioids, which have ended hundreds of thousands of lives across the country.

Garfield Lt. Jeffrey Stewart of the Community Affairs Division and Lamborghini Paramus built upon an existing partnership to develop a "high visibility vehicle to spark conversation, reduce stigma, and connect individuals and families with life-saving resources," the police said in a release this week.
The Lamborghini Huracán Sterrato was "wrapped" in custom Garfield Police Department-inspired graphics, making it the only one of its kind, the department said.

It also displays a QR code linking to resources available from the The Center for Alcohol and Drug Resources, a Division of Children's Aid & Family Services — offering immediate access to treatment and support services.
"This initiative comes at no cost to the taxpayers of the City of Garfield," police noted. "Its cost — $309,895 — is far beyond our current budget. The vehicle remains the property of Lamborghini Paramus. They have generously committed to bringing it to us for community events and Department functions as needed."
The department said they expected to debut the vehicle at a local toy drive at the end of the week, and are able to use it through June of next year, culminating with the Department's "Chief for a Day" event.
More importantly, it's expected to raise awareness of the opioid epidemic. Pills laced with drugs like fentanyl have killed people with just one dose, prompting the "one pill can kill" slogan.
The New Jersey Attorney General's Office said there have been 57 suspected drug overdose deaths in Bergen County just this year.
Opioids have killed approximately half a million people in the United States in the last decades, statistics say, although overdose deaths have recently been in decline in New Jersey.
The Garfield police advised that if you or someone you know is struggling with addiction, contact the Center for Alcohol and Drug Resources 24/7 Addiction Support Hotline: 201-589-2976.
