City Releases Drawings For Observer Highway Pumpstation

Going for a "post-industrial" look as well as honoring the Erie-Lackawanna terminal

The city released the designs for the outside of the wet weather pump on Observer Highway on Wednesday morning. The facade of the building, designed by local architect John Nastasi (who is located in the nearby Neumann Leathers building), is supposed to be more industrial in style than the previous design.

The project, including the facade of the building, is paid for by the North Hudson Sewage Authority.

According to a press release sent out by the city, "The design honors the post-industrial city by paying tribute to its most historic icon, the 1907 Erie Lackawanna Ferry Terminal Complex.  Folded copper louvers are set over translucent glass panels citing the timeless aesthetic of aging copper while referencing classic industrial structures of the turn of the century rail yard."

This design follows a public brainstorming session back in March of this year.

"Based on feedback from the community, public officials, the Local Historic Preservation Commission, and the Quality of Life Coalition, Nastasi Architects developed a new design that was sensitive to community concerns and appropriate for the area and use," stated the city's release.
