HOBOKEN, NJ — A redevelopment proposal for First and Washington streets had Hoboken residents asking about the future of the CVS Pharmacy, there, which is open 24 hours.

The city held community meetings about the proposed redevelopment and Fabian Arts District Redevelopment Plan, including adding an arts center, in 2022 and 2023.

At the time, officials told Patch that the plans didn't mean the existing stores would leave, just that the city would like to evaluate concepts for the area.

This week, new coverage of the proposal elicited concerns.

But 1st Ward Councilman Paul Presinzano said Wednesday, "After speaking with informed sources, all signs point to CVS on Washington St staying put. It’s well known CVS is a lifeline for many. If redevelopment moves forward, it would likely start at the south end (the parking lot), with no impact expected to CVS or nearby."

Uptown Councilwoman Tiffanie Fisher noted, "Than you for clearing this up. Both of us fielded calls from neighbors who rely on this store."

The store at 59 Washington St. has groceries, medical products, and a Minute Clinic. More information is here.
