Late on Sunday — the first day of winter and the longest night of the year — the shelter will hold a memorial to those who were unhoused and passed away on the street.

The memorial starts at 4 p.m.

"The Longest Night, also known as Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day, takes place on the winter solstice when daylight is at its shortest and darkness lasts the longest," the shelter noted in a message.

"Communities across the country gather on this day to remember people who died while experiencing homelessness, to acknowledge their lives, and to raise awareness about the urgent need for compassion, housing, and care."

At the Hoboken Shelter, the event is "a moment of reflection and community. All are welcome to join us today at 4 p.m."
