Flash Flood Watch in Effect for Hoboken Starting Friday

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for Hoboken Friday morning through Saturday afternoon. 

Beginning late Thursday night and continuing through early Saturday, the remnants of Tropical Storm Andrea are expected to dump between two and four inches of rain across the tri-state area.

Rainfall rates are forecasted to reach between one and two inches per hour at their height Friday afternoon through early Saturday morning.

In preparation for the storm, Hoboken will activate its Office of Emergency Management and Community Emergency Response Team, and coordinate with North Hudson Sewerage Authority, according to a city Nixle alert.

The city is asking residents who typically park on flood-prone streets to make advance preparations for their vehicles.

"If heavy rain beyond the capacity of Hoboken's flood pump occurs during high tide, flooding is expected," the city said in a statement.

The city is offering residents who live in flood-prone areas and have valid resident or temporary parking permits $5 parking in municipal Garage B (located on 2nd Street between Hudson and River streets) and Garage D (215 Hudson St.) from 8 a.m. Friday through noon Saturday.
