Hoboken Filing Deadline For Mayor's Race Is Thursday

You've still got time to file forms to run for mayor of Hoboken.

HOBOKEN, NJ — Five people have publicly announced that they'll run for mayor of Hoboken, but there's still time for other mayor or council candidates to turn in their forms.

Besides the mayor's race, three at-large spots on the City Council are also up for election in fall.

The elections are non-partisan. Residents can choose a mayoral candidate and any three council members.

Under state statutes, the filing deadline is the 75th day prior to the election, which would be Thursday, Aug. 21, said city spokesperson Marilyn Baer.

For the mayor and council-at-large petitions, 100 signatures are required. For the Sixth Ward
Council position, 50 signatures are required.

Hoboken's salary ordinance states that the new Mayor's salary will be $130,000 and the annual salary for a member of the Hoboken City Council is $35,000. The council president and Vice President will start at $40,000 and $37,500, plus optional benefits.

Controversies And Candidates

Voters can choose any three council candidates, regardless of whether they are on a slate together.

The other six council seats, one per ward, will be on the ballot in 2027.

The General Election will be held on Nov. 4.
