Hoboken High School Pool Use, And Other Recreation Updates

Here are updates on two new Hoboken recreation programs and the use of area pools.

HOBOKEN, NJ — The city of Hoboken announced two recreation programs for the summer and gave an update on the Hoboken High School pool on Wednesday.

Early this month, Hoboken's superintendent of schools said that the Hoboken High School pool will be open for residents this summer in the afternoon. (The Stevens indoor pool is also open to residents for a fee).

"The district will once again provide the Hoboken Recreation Department with access to the pool in the afternoons for the city's program," wrote Superintendent Christine Johnson on June 12.

On Wednesday, city spokesperson Marilyn Baer said, "the city will be announcing Hoboken High School pool access in the coming days."

Baer also said that the reason two summer recreation programs — a baseball clinic and gymnastics sessions — have not been available for signups this month is that they are filled.

The city did announce two other programs on Wednesday.

Cheer Dynamics All Stars Summer Camp sessions will be held from July 11 to Aug. 4 for children 5-16.

The city's message said, "Instructors will work with students individually and in groups to introduce campers to cheerleading, whether cheering is a goal or just for fun. The camps will incorporate age-specific games, fundamentals training, basic tumbling, core strengthening, jumps, dances, and conditioning."

Camps are:

  • July 11 – July 14th “We Got Spirit” 1 - 4 p.m.
  • July 18 – July 21 “All About That Base” 1 – 4 p.m.
  • July 25 – July 28 “Fly High to The Sky” 1 – 4 p.m.
  • Aug. 1 – Aug. 4 “I Can Do it All” 1 – 4 p.m.

Also, the city will host a girls summer softball clinic from July 12 through Aug. 11.

The program is open to children ages 7-12 years old.

That clinic will run every Tuesday and Thursday at the Little League Field (Fifth and River Street) from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Both registrations opened Thursday (June 30) at 5 p.m., with different links. They are:

Meanwhile, the town of Weehawken has still not changed its restrictions on using its pool, despite the state telling it that it must allow other towns' residents to use it. READ MORE: State Tells Weehawken: Let Hoboken Residents (And Others) Use Your New Pool

Residents have stressed, in comments on Patch this month, the need for a pool that's more accessible.
