Mayor Demands Suspension Of Former SWAT Officer

Lt. Angelo Andriani, a Hoboken SWAT officer currently on paid leave, was allegedly involved in a disturbance at Tampa Airport earlier this month

Mayor Dawn Zimmer is calling for the immediate suspension (without pay) of Lt. Angelo Andriani, who was a part of the Hoboken SWAT team before it got dismantled in 2008 in the wake of the so-called "Hooters scandal."

Andriani acted as a "passenger causing disturbance" in the Tampa Airport on Monday morning Jan. 18, according to Transportation Security Administration Supervisor Taylor Johnson.

"This type of behavior can not and will not be tolerated and we are taking swift and decisive measures to remedy the actions of this individual," Zimmer said in a statement Wednesday afternoon.

Andriani was one of nine SWAT officers who were fired after posing for racy photos with Hooters waitresses in Alabama. In the photos, Hooters waitresses are holding the officers' weapons. In other photos, Andriani and other officers are seen pouring jello shots in the mouths of girls during the SWAT team's trip to the South.

The incident at the Tampa International Airport is being investigated separately from the 2007 incident.

"Mayor Zimmer has been and continues to demand a resolution to the outstanding SWAT team investigation," the mayor's statement read. "The public has waited long enough for a resolution of this case."
