HOBOKEN, NJ — The city of Hoboken will host a virtual meeting this week about the public safety component of the proposed $152 million Hoboken Municipal Complex, which the city wants to build on 15th Street.

Hoboken Public Safety Director Ken Ferrante, Police Chief Steven Aguiar, and Fire Chief Anton Peskens will host the virtual community meeting on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at 6 p.m.

The proposed Hoboken Municipal Complex would include new public safety facilities such as a modern Fire Department Headquarters, upgraded headquarters for the Police Department, a centralized dispatch to increase operational efficiencies, and an Office of Emergency Management Command Center, the city said.

The city has said that the complex is much needed to replace outdated facilities. The city also needs to build a municipal garage as part of another agreement meant to keep northern waterfront land as open space.

The city already has held a forum and survey for residents to discuss the plans, and has added a community pool as a result of resident feedback.

Since then, the city has asked for more feedback on the revised plans. A survey is available through April 28, and can be found here, along with more details of the project.

There has been some controversy over the project, as the owner of the longtime Poggi Press business, currently on that site at 15th and Adams streets, has opposed the idea of the city taking his land by eminent domain.

The city has explained, "The complex is envisioned to upgrade Hoboken’s outdated police and fire headquarters and department of public works garage into one, centralized facility, that could also provide community amenities including recreation facilities and an uptown branch of the Hoboken Public Library."
