New Supermarket In Hoboken Closer To Opening
Hoboken's version of DUMBO Market could open in February, one official said.
HOBOKEN, NJ — Urban Market — the 14,000-square-foot supermarket run by the owners of Brooklyn's Dumbo Market — is inching closer to opening at the northern part of Washington Street.
Second Ward Councilwoman Tiffanie Fisher said Tuesday in her newsletter, "I spoke with the owner yesterday who said they were a day away from clearing their last hurdle ... once cleared, it would take about two weeks to get the rest ready to open."
Dumbo opened its first location in the DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) section of Brooklyn at 66 Front St. The Hoboken location will be its first in New Jersey.

It will have some competition from Trader Joe's and Kings Fresh, each a few blocks away. But it will be twice the size of the 7,000-foot Kings.
It will be located at 1425 Washington St.

Other Markets Coming
Another market is expected to open in the opposite corner of town when the former Chambord space at 38 Jackson St. is redeveloped into the South End Market and Lofts.
And plans reportedly have been proposed for a Whole Foods market at 101 Washington St., inside a former bank building.
