Peek Into Just-Opened Hoboken Supermarket (And See Egg Prices, Hours)

Hoboken's new Urban Market opened Friday morning. Hear what the owner has to say and find out the hours, and of course, egg prices.

HOBOKEN, NJ — Hoboken's newest supermarket opened on Friday morning and was buzzing with shoppers as it gave away samples.

Urban Market — 14,000-square-foot supermarket run by the owners of Brooklyn's Dumbo Market — will be open seven days a week, said its owner.

When owner Ameed Mujalli, who also owns the original Dumbo Market, was asked what he'd like to tell shoppers, he responded, "Fresh produce, a lot of variety. It's a full-service supermarket. Whatever you need."

It may give the other markets a run for their money on egg prices. A dozen were priced at $4.19 on Friday, with other brands priced higher (see photo above).

Dumbo Market opened its first location in the DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) section of Brooklyn at 66 Front St. The Hoboken location is its first in New Jersey.

The market is tentantively set to be open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day.

More Supermarkets

Another market is expected to open in the mile-square city when the former Chambord space at 38 Jackson St. is redeveloped into the South End Market and Lofts. And plans reportedly have been proposed for a Whole Foods market at 101 Washington St., inside a former bank building.

The city also has a ShopRite and a smaller Acme on the west side of town.
