We are writing to express our concern over the lack of transparency in the process created by theHoboken Hospital Authority to evaluate bids and to make decisions about the sale of HobokenUniversity Medical Center (HUMC).
We understand that public hearings will be held at a later stage, after the key decisions have been made, when effectively the only choices will be to accept the proposal with minor modifications or to begin from the beginning. We agree with NJ Appleseed that this city would benefit greatly if the issues that would arise in a CHAPA review concerning the protectionof “community assets” were considered by the Hoboken City Council.

The hospital and the ground on which it sits are public assets. The choice of what happens there is ofgreat importance to the City not only in financial terms but also as it will affect the quality of life here. The ripple effect of whatever happens in those buildings and on that land will have major consequencesfor the people of Hoboken.
Sincerely,
Alice Crozier, President People for Open Government
