Police Blotter: Cars Are Targeted, Couple Gets Arrested Together

At least eight parked cars were vandalized or broken into this past week in Hoboken, and at least five GPS systems were stolen, according to police reports.
A Global Positioning System was stolen from a car in front of 910 Madison St. between Thursday, Jan. 21, at 11 p.m. and Friday, Jan. 22, at 9 a.m., according to police reports.
The owner of the blue 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser told police that the car's front passenger side window was broken. A Magellan Roadmate G.P.S. Model 2000 was missing from the car, police said.

Another GPS system was stolen between the following Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning around 9 a.m., according to police reports. The 2009 4 door silver Audi-A3 with New Jersey registration was parked in front of 550 9th St., police said, and the value of the stolen GPS was $200.
During that weekend, the same thing happened to a 1997 Toyota Camry parked in front of 162 Newark St., according to police.

Another car was vandalized in front of 129 Garden St., police said. The owner of a beige 2004 Honda Civic found her car with a smashed side window, according to police reports.
No arrests were made in any of the cases.
Love is... getting arrested together?
A 19-year-old Jersey City man and his 18-year-old girlfriend, also from Jersey City, were arrested on Sunday, Jan. 24, around 12:30 a.m., police said.
William Workman threw a rock through the windshield of a 2009 Audi A4 with NJ Registration in front of 50 Harrison St., according to police reports. When police arrived to arrest Workman, his girlfriend, Jessica Calderon, tried to intervene, police said, by grabbing her boyfriend and trying to take him out of the officer's control.
A struggle followed, police said, culminating in Calderon and a police officer falling to the ground, as another officer pulled Workman away from her, according to reports.
Calderon was arrested and charged with obstructing officers, resisting arrest and underage drinking, according to police reports.
Workman was also taken to police headquarters, according to police reports. He asked police what would happen to his girlfriend and showed his remorse when it turned out Calderon's charges were more serious than his, police said.
According to police reports, Workman then said: "It's all my fault, we were having an argument, and I got mad and broke the window to the car."
A domestic dispute taken outside
Police officers were patrolling the uptown area of Hoboken on Saturday, Jan. 23, around 11 p.m. when a 32-year-old Hoboken man came up to them with a complaint.
"He's in that Toyota. The guy in the passenger seat is the one that assaulted her," the man told officers, according to police reports. "He's is in that car right in front of you."
The officers turned on their emergency lights and stopped a man in a Toyota in front of 150 14th Street, according to police reports.
The man turned out to be 19-year-old Quinton Robinson, of Washington Street, police said. The officers recognized Robinson from previous disputes between him and his girlfriend.
Robinson's girlfriend, also a Hoboken resident, reported the assault to the police. She was standing on 13th Street with a bloody, swollen face, according to police reports. She said Robinson had hit her with his fist, police said.
The girlfriend said she had slapped Robinson during their fight, according to police reports. Robinson answered with a punch, police reports stated.
Robinson was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, police said and the girlfriend was brought to Hoboken University Medical Center. The girlfriend's jaw was fractured, according to police reports.
Man threatens Police Officer
Police responded to reports that a man was threatening a clerk at St. Mary's Convenience Store on 131 Willow Ave.
When the police entered the store they saw 28-year-old Samuel Gilyard, who lives in Jersey City, yelling at the clerk, police said. When an officer placed his hand on Gilyard's back, he turned around angrily with a clenched fist, police said.
The man would not leave the grocery story and began yelling at the police officer, threatening to kill him., according to police reports.
Gilyard was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and terroristic threats.
