Street Closed In Downtown Hoboken Due To Water Main Break

The city of Hoboken said to avoid the area near a water main break Thursday afternoon. Water service may be disrupted.

HOBOKEN, NJ — Hoboken officials have asked residents to avoid a block of lower Hudson Street late Thursday afternoon as crews conduct emergency water main repairs.

Water service to the block — Hudson Street between Third and Fourth streets — may be temporarily interrupted, the city said around 4:30 p.m.

The block will remain closed until repairs made by Veolia Water crews are complete, officials said.

The area is approximately six blocks from the Hoboken train terminal.

The city periodically suffers water main breaks as it attempts to upgrade its century old infrastructure.

In May of 2019, the City of Hoboken and then SUEZ entered into a new water service contract investing at least $33 million in water infrastructure upgrades through 2034.
