HOBOKEN, NJ – Every year, The Hudson School observes an annual early springtime tradition by running a students vs. teachers basketball game at the Hoboken Multi Service Center. For the past few years, the teachers have often been the victors in the competition. But this year, the tables have turned and the students won 44–39.
The student team was composed mostly of players from the schools boys’ basketball team while the teachers’ team was composed of various faculty members including the basketball team coach, Dan Burrell.
The students’ team was led by student coaches Sabir Lesure, Reed Kibutu, and Olivia Yerovi.

Assistant student coach Reed Kibutu commented that, "I am proud of my players and how well they played that day – we had some rough patches during practice, but we came out on top."
Faculty player and Girls’ soccer coach Ari Räisä gave his opinion on what he believes happened.

“This is the first time we [the faculty] ever lost," Räisä said. "We underestimated the boys who are faster and bigger than they were last year. Their shooting had also improved unexpectedly – something that took us by surprise. We did not take them seriously enough until it was too late. We also changed to man-to-man defense until too late in the game, the students had too many open shots against us.”
All students expressed great interest in having another win next year and look forward to their next competition.
