NJ Transit later told Patch that the train struck a motor vehicle around 12:47 p.m. at the intersection of Paterson Plank Road and Marshall Street.

The heavily-traveled corner is just south of the Second Street Light Rail station, near the Hoboken/Jersey City border.

"There were no injuries to the light rail vehicle operator or to any of the 10 customers on board," the agency said. "The operator of the motor vehicle was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries."

NJ Transit said around 2:30 p.m. that service is suspended between Second Street in Hoboken and Newport Station.

New Jersey Transit police are leading the investigation.

NJ Transit and Hudson-Bergen Light Rail had not posted any alerts for the light rail as of 2 p.m. But the agency noted that the Morris & Essex Line train to Hoboken, set to arrive at 2:29 p.m., would be up to 55 minutes late due to a "motor vehicle strike." The agency said an update would follow.
