Treats, No Tricks, for Teachers: United Way of Hudson County and Meadowlands Hospital Provide Supplies

Treats for Teachers will provide teachers with tote bags full of basic supplies.

Going door-to-door on Halloween looking for candy and other treats is fun, and this year in Secaucus is looking particularly good for all 225 teachers in the Secaucus Public Schools.

Treats for Teachers, a joint initiative of Meadowlands Hospital Medical Center and United Way of Hudson County, will provide every teacher in the district with a tote bag full of supplies that will benefit every student in the classroom.

“Every year, public school teachers spend between $600 and $1,000 from their own personal funds to purchase classroom supplies,” Meadowlands Hospital President Felicia Karsos said. Karsos and the rest of the Hospital staff don’t believe teachers should have to spend so much of their own money to help kilds learn.

Treats for Teachers will provide each teacher a tote bag full of basic supplies, including copy paper, ruled filler paper, graph paper, colored pencils, red and blue pens, pencils, sharpies and a ruler.

“When we consider Halloween, we see all of the great gifts that our teachers give our students every day,” Daniel Altilio, president of United Way Hudson County, said. “Our teachers deserve treats for all of their hard work, and every child that we can help to learn now helps eliminate poverty and need later in life.”
