United Water Study, Puerto Rican Heritage Celebrated This Week in Hoboken

In wake of the multiple water main breaks in recent months, United Water is set to give a presentation at Wednesday night's Hoboken City Council meeting, after which the city and the water utility will enter into a Memorandum of Agreement for the administration and production of a water infrastructure master plan to determine what renovations and improvements need to be made to Hoboken's aging water system.

Other items on this week's council agenda include a resolution in opposition to the Hoboken Board of Education budget and a couple amendements to the city budget sponsored by opposing council factions.

Assuming Mother Nature cooperates, the city's numerous outdoor summer series will continue this week with the following schedule:

Monday

The Hudson Shakespeare Company will perform Cyrano de Bergerac at 7 p.m. in Sinatra Park as part of the city's weekly outdoor Shakespeare in the Park series.

Tuesday

Family Fun Nights continue with a children's sing-along led by award-winning musician Yosi at at 7 p.m. at Shipyard Park, located at 13th Street and McFeeley Drive.

Wednesday

Movies Under the Stars continues at Pier A Park with a musical performance by North Jersey alt-rock trio North of Somewhere at 7 p.m., followed by a screening of "Lincoln" at 9 p.m.

Thursday

Concerts in the Park continues with a 7 p.m. performance by the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra at Pier A Park, located at 1st Street and Sinatra Drive.

Before plopping down at the pier to check out the Symphony Orchestra at night, residents can grab some fresh picnic items at the Hoboken Uptown Farmers’ Market, open every Thursday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the corner of 13th and Hudson streets. 

Saturday

Hoboken will celebrate its Puerto Rican heritage with the 47th annual raising of the Puerto Rican flag in front of Hoboken City Hall at 11 a.m., followed by a ceremony in the court room.

Residents interested in test driving an electric car will have a chance this weekend when Smart, an urban microcar, arrives in Hoboken at 23 Hudson Place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday as part of a national test drive tour.
