What To Do With Your Family In Hoboken; Plus, Football Signups
Here are more than a dozen things to do with your family around Hoboken in August, including a concert with the "Up Past Bedtime Band."
HOBOKEN, NJ — Keep kids of all ages busy this summer with activities in and around Hoboken. Here are some for the coming weekend and week.
New Recreation Signups In Hoboken: Football; Also, Teen Soccer And Frisbee
The city announced some new recreation signups at the end of a message on July 22. If you missed it, here it is:

- The City of Hoboken Recreation Department has opened registration for fall tackle football for children ages 6-14. The season begins Saturday/Sunday after Labor Day weekend and concludes in mid-November.
- Also available for children ages 13-18: pickup soccer (5 p.m.-7 p.m.) and pickup kickball/ultimate frisbee (7 p.m.-9 p.m.) on Thursdays and Fridays, July through August at Mama Johnson Field.

Family Friendly Concert Series
Hoboken has three weekly summer concert series in its parks. The Family Fun Night series at Shipyard Park has this lineup for August at Shipyard Park (13th Street and Bernard McFeeley Shipyard Lane):
- Aug. 3: Americana Family Jamboree - old time fiddle tunes by the Carter Family, Woody Guthrie, Bill Monroe, Pete Seeger & more
- Aug. 10: Erin Lee and the Up Past Bedtime Band - skip, holler, dance & sing along
- Aug. 17: Mr. Magico - High energy, magical entertainment

See A Family Film In A Hudson County Park
The county of Hudson rotates its family films through different county parks, as you can see by the poster above. There's at least one county park in each town, from Columbus Park in Hoboken to Washington Park on the Jersey City/Union City border.

It's not in Hudson County, but it is Uber distance. The water park is open now, a bumper car rink is set to open by the end of the year, and two attractions have opened recently: Sea Life Aquarium and Legoland Discovery Center. Find out more: Click here.

Take A Nature Walk In Liberty State Park
Liberty State Park in Jersey City offers several activities each month: nature walks, history and architecture lectures, and scavenger hunts. Later this month they're offering a lecture on the now defunct "Blue Comet" train from Jersey City to Atlantic City, which was featured on a "Sopranos" episode.

Check Out Liberty State Park's Newly Reopened Nature Center
The state-run nature center in Jersey City has been closed since Superstorm Sandy, and that's an awful long time. But Liberty State Park's nature center has finally reopened this week. Find out more here.
'Main Street Pops': Monthly Outdoor Markets
The monthly Main Street Pops artisan markets return this Sunday under the 14th Street Viaduct from Hoboken to Jersey City. The markets often have entertainment for families, and kids can enjoy nearby shops on 14th Street as well.

Hoboken, Secaucus, and Jersey City all have free concerts coming to their outdoor areas over the next few weeks.

Take NJ Transit To Summer Attractions
NJ Transit recently announced that it's providing train service to Six Flags Great Adventure, American Dream, Liberty Science Center, and more. Check out njtransit.com/summer for more information.
Liberty Science Center Updates
Got a dinosaur-obsessed child? Among Liberty Science Center's exhibits for all ages, the T. Rex exhibit opened in May. Click here to learn more.

Hoboken Historical Museum: Weekly Crafts For Two Age Groups
Hoboken's Historical Museum has weekly art sessions for young kids, and also for kids 3-11. Read on:
- Arts & Crafts: Children ages 2-5 years are invited (with adult, of course) to drop by the Museum three days a week for fun art making in the Museum walkway. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Art materials are provided, and adults must wear masks. Supported by family sponsor, Macy's. Learn more here.
- Let's Play Together! Join artist/musician Issa Sow every Monday at 3 p.m. for a fun hour of creativity with music, art and dance. Held outside in the walkway by the Museum entrance, the program is designed to be inclusive of children ages 3 to 11, across the entire neurodiversity spectrum, so they can learn to play and be creative together. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Drop in or call 201-656-2240 for more information.
Storytime In The Park
Little City Books has announced an outdoor storytime in the park. "Beloved Little City Books storytime reader Laura is back this summer with free outdoor gatherings," they noted. "Classic and new picture books, songs and poems."
Storytime with Laura is Tuesday at 10 a.m., Church Square Park, Fourth and Garden Streets, free, kids aged 0-5. Find out more about Little City Books (which has a great room full of children's books!) here.
