Workers Accidentally Pave Over Drains In Hoboken Before Storm

HOBOKEN, NJ — With North Jersey under a flood watch and Tropical Storm Debby poised to bear down on low-lying Hoboken this week, workers for Hudson County have accidentally paved over some drains in front of houses, the city and county confirmed Tuesday.

And now, someone must unearth newly buried sump pump drains.

"Yes," confirmed a city spokesperson on Tuesday. "The city notified the county of the paving issue, and they are working on a resolution."

A spokesperson for the county of Hudson said, "The county is aware of the issue and is in contact with staff to address this.”

Hoboken Councilwoman Emily Jabbour said that she had learned of the issue last Thursday and notified Hoboken's representative in the county, County Commissioner Anthony Romano.

Hoboken and Hudson County are under a thunderstorm watch until 11 p.m. Tuesday and a flood watch through noon Wednesday.
