Applications Open For Hazlet's 2025 Police Youth Academy

The goal of the academy is to familiarize children with the role of a police officer, officials said.

HAZLET, NJ — Applications are officially open for those interested in the Hazlet Township Police Department’s 2025 Youth Academy.

From Aug. 11 through Aug. 15, participants will get hands-on experience in a wide variety of law enforcement techniques and training from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day, police said.

Each day will be dedicated to a different topic, and the program is open to all Hazlet students who will attend 6th or 7th grade in September.

Academy participants can expect to experience the following:

  • Military Etiquette Drill and Ceremony
  • Handcuffing Techniques
  • Firearms Safety
  • Police Canine Interactions
  • Basic Criminal Investigations
  • Police Baton Training
  • Self-Defense
  • First Aid and Fire Safety

“The goal of the Police Youth Academy is to familiarize children with the role of a police officer,” officials said.

The cost for the academy is $50 per registrant, according to police, and includes two t-shirts, a hat and necessary materials.

The academy is limited to 40 students to be chosen on a lottery basis, officials said, and the application deadline is May 30. To access a youth academy application, you can click here.
