It was an eventful morning for one local pup, who got stuck in a lake after chasing a goose across the ice, police said.

HAZLET, NJ — One local dog is safe and warm again after Hazlet Police recused her from an icy lake in Veteran’s Park on Tuesday morning.

Around 9:50 a.m., police said they received a frantic call for a dog stuck in a lake at Veteran’s Park. The lake still had a thin sheet of ice covering it, and the dog, named Taffy, was struggling to make her way back to the shore.

Once he arrived at the lake, Centrone put on his gear and carefully made his way across the ice to help Taffy, police said. From there, he was able to lift her up onto the ice where she was then able to make her way back to shore.

According to police, Taffy’s owner said she tripped and lost Taffy’s leash when Taffy went to chase a goose on the ice.
