Election 2022: James Cavuto, Hazlet Township Committee

HAZLET, NJ — Republican James Cavuto is one of four candidates seeking two full-term seats on the Hazlet Township Committee in the Nov. 8 general election.

In these profiles, candidates provide voters background about themselves and their positions on the issues. Patch will publish individual candidate profiles leading to the election.

Cavuto said his priorities include the need for grants to help prevent flooding and improve storm water management. He also wants to look at incentives to increase volunteerism in local emergency volunteer organizations.

Cavuto is seeking the seat now held by Republican Committeeman and Deputy Mayor Michael Glackin who is not seeking re-election. Republican Committeeman Robert Preston, appointed to the committee earlier this year, is also seeking election to a full term.

  • Flooding and deterioration of local creeks. Work to find available grant monies so as to fix/mitigate flooding caused by storms/heavy rains.
  • Emergency service volunteerism. Work with EMS and the Fire Department to find ways, including incentives, to recruit and maintain volunteer emergency service members.
  • Road improvements. Continue the work of the current administration with providing funding for the paving of the streets within the township.

Identify specific goals or ideas you have to enhance life in your town:

  • Community involvement through volunteerism to allow residents an inside view on how things are run and how they can help with improvements.
  • Revitalize township parks with repairs and replacement items as needed and to make sure they are well maintained for use by all residents.

What in your experience or background prepares you for election to office:

  • 35-year member of Hazlet Township First Aid Squad, including four years as EMS chief, running operations side; five years as president, running administrative side.
  • 27 years as a Port Authority Police Officer, 19 of which I was assigned to the Commanding Officers Office as an Administrative Officer.
