Grounded Bald Eagle Spotted In Holmdel Needs Medical Help
Police in Holmdel ask that anyone who sees an injured bald eagle call the department so the bird can be captured and helped.

HOLMDEL, NJ — An injured bald eagle will likely be grounded in the area of Longview Drive until captured, Holmdel police say.
The eagle was spotted on Canterbury Court as it was being attacked by two other bald eagles.
It suffered what appeared to be a severe leg injury and was having difficulty flying.

Animal control arrived on scene, but was unable to capture it, police said.
If you see the eagle, police urge that you do not approach it. Rather contact police at 732-946-4400.

Police will dispatch animal control who will attempt to safely capture it and provide medical treatment.
According to the Conserve Wildlife Foundation of New Jersey, bald eagles reside year-round in our state, usually remaining in the area surrounding their nest.
The highest concentration of bald eagles occurs along the Delaware Bay in Salem and Cumberland counties but bald eagles are also found in central and northern New Jersey near lakes, reservoirs, and rivers.
In 2007, the bald eagle was removed from the federal endangered species list. But in New Jersey, the breeding population still has endangered species status, providing eagles the most protection.
In 2018 there were 185 active bald eagle nests in New Jersey, the organization's website says.
