UPDATE: Hazlet Child Refuses Ride from Stranger, Police Located Alleged Suspect

Update as of 7:15 p.m. on Sept. 11:  Hazlet Police reported on its Facebook page that the subject in Tuesday's incident has come forward and the incident appears to be a mistake. After being interviewed by investigators, it has been determined the incident is a misunderstanding.

Hazlet Police are looking for four-door light blue sedan driven by a white male, after a 10-year-old reported the man offered him a ride during his walk home from school.

According to the Hazlet Police Department, at 3:30 p.m. on Monterey Drive a white male between the ages of 40 and 55 with brownish-grey hair, facial hair and sunburned skin stopped to ask the 10-year-old if he needed a ride. The child replied "No, you're a stranger."

The suspect drove off, and the incident wasn't reported to police until 6:30 p.m. Police said extra patrols are in the area and the incident remains under investigation.
