Holmdel $2.81M Bond Ordinance Will Be Voted On Tuesday

The ordinance is meant to fund road improvements and police and emergency services building improvements, among other items.

HOLMDEL, NJ — A critical $2.81M bond ordinance for safety, parks and road improvements in Holmdel will be voted on Tuesday in a special Township Committee Meeting.

The public session starts at 9 a.m. at the Committee Meeting Room and will open and close with time for public comment.

The bond ordinance was introduced during the last Committee meeting on Aug. 11, after being struck down the month before in a 3-2 vote. It will finance road improvements, police and emergency services building improvements, public safety equipment and recreational facility improvements, among other items. Here is the full document, detailing the items being financed.

Committee members Tom Critelli and DJ Luccarelli voted against the ordinance in July, arguing that an extra $1.5 million was needed for a turf field. They both agreed to adopt the reintroduction of the ordinance during the last committee meeting after Mayor Greg Buontempo said he would be "more than happy" to possibly put a project for a turf field on a future agenda.

"But it's gotta be a complete plan that all the residents get to see," Buontempo said. "Unspecified bond in my book is a no-go."

The controversial topic prompted many residents to address the committee, some questioning how much people in town wanted a turf field, others imploring the members to pass the ordinance and to make any future plans for a turf field transparent.

Also on the consent agenda for the meeting on Tuesday is a resolution to approve the purchase of a $1.49 million fire truck and a resolution approving entry into a grant agreement with the County of Monmouth for alcoholism/drug abuse prevention services.

Here is the agenda.
