Monmouth Co. Had 486 New COVID-19 Cases, 3 Deaths This Week

MONMOUTH COUNTY, NJ — There were 486 new positive cases of COVID-19 this week reported in Monmouth County, between Monday and Thursday. During the same time period, the county also reported three deaths related to COVID-19.

About half of New Jersey counties now have a "high" level of transmission — including Monmouth — and the other half have a "substantial" level, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC),

Howell reported the most number of new positive cases in the county (14.6 percent), followed by Middletown (11.9 percent) and Manalapan (8 percent).

Just last Friday, Gov. Phil Murphy announced that students, educators, staff and visitors will have to once again wear face masks in school buildings in the upcoming school year, regardless of vaccination status.

“Monmouth County is seeing an increase in COVID-19 cases across the County. The good news is that we are not seeing a significant increase in hospitalizations or deaths related to COVID-19 at this time," Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone said.

According to Arnone, the county also has one of the highest vaccination rates, with more than half of its towns having 70 percent or more of their population vaccinated. In total, 84,000 vaccines have been administered county-wide.

COVID-19 vaccines are available at Brookdale Community College with no appointment necessary on Tuesdays from 2 to 6 p.m.

“Monmouth County is a popular tourism destination with a substantial increase in residents during the summer and a significant increase in visitors to the County since the Public Health Emergency ended," Arnone said. "We are excited to have visitors come to Monmouth County for its incredible beaches, parks and to support our business communities and we also want people to be as safe as possible.”
