Most Power Restored After Garbage Truck Downs Pole In Hazlet

A private hauler was lifting a garbage container, hit wires and damaged utility poles off of Route 36 at Poole Avenue, police say.

HAZLET, NJ — Power to traffic lights was restored and power to all but four residences came back after a garbage truck lifting a container in a parking lot hit wires and downed a utility pole, police said.

The incident happened behind the Provident Bank in the parking lot, at Route 36 and Poole Avenue, police said.

Sgt. Robert Dickens said the truck operating the container downed some wires and one pole.

Power to all traffic lights is restored, he said. A traffic light at Poole and Route 36 was out earlier in the morning.

As of 11:30 a.m., JCP&L said power was restored to all but four residences. But it will be restored as soon as a new police is installed, spokesperson Chris Hoenig said.

The incident happened around 6 a.m. the police alert said motorists could not cross over the highway at Poole Avenue at that time.
