'Smart, Strong, Safe' Workshop Returns To Hazlet

The free, two-day workshop is designed to educate and empower young women and help them get out of dangerous situations, police said.

HAZLET, NJ — Registration is open for the Hazlet Township Police Department’s “Smart, Strong, Safe” self-protection workshop, which will officially return to the Hazlet community in April.

Held in collaboration with 180 Turning Lives Around and Bayshore Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, "Smart, Strong, Safe" is a free self-protection workshop for local girls designed to educate and empower them to recognize dangerous situations and get themselves out of them, police said.

The first day of the workshop will be held on Friday, April 4 from 5-7 p.m., where 180 Turning Lives Around will present the facts on dating violence, red flags, and drug facilitated sexual assault.

The second day of the workshop will take place on Sunday, April 6 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. During Day 2, attendees will be able to learn valuable, hands-on skills from Bayshore Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and build confidence to protect themselves.

The program is open to all high-school aged young women from any school, police said.

Day 1 of the workshop will take place at 255 Middle Road, Hazlet.

Day 2 of the workshop will take place at Bayshore Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gym, located at 1444 NJ-36, Hazlet.
