Shopping local lowers Marlboro's property taxes

A property tax program that partners local business with the consumer has taken off in Marlboro, and now Manalapan is on board as well.

The program allows participating local businesses to sign on and offer a certain percentage of every customer's bill toward that customer's property taxes.

In its first year, the Shop Marlboro program saved residents close to $20,000 on their tax bills, according to Carmine de Falco, Managing Director of Fin Credit.

Marlboro Council President Frank LaRocca said in July that the savings on his tax bill from the program were greater than this year's municipal tax increase.

Question of the day: Would this work in Holmdel or Hazlet? Would you sign up?
