Beloved Hopatcong Business Closes With Special Food Farewell

Though saddened, the eatery told the community they "wouldn't leave without a proper goodbye," which included their "famous fried chicken."

HOPATCONG, NJ — Sandwiches, empanadas, cottage pies, fried chicken, baked goods, chilled salads and other favorites - among some of the frequently requested from the Hopatcong Deli and Market - are now the stuff of memories.

The well-liked food establishment announced on Aug. 26, it would be closing for good on Friday, Aug. 27.

“Well Hopatcong friends, it’s unfortunately the end of an era,” they announced, attributing “the pandemic and the rising costs of everything,” as reasons they needed to shut down.

Many replied to the establishment’s Facebook post with the announcement, with wishes for good luck on the next leg of their journey, but others more specific.

“Your sandwiches were the best,” one person, Patrick Downey, wrote. “Please let us know on one of the community pages if you guys take another jab at it in the future.”

“So sorry to hear this,” James Quinn posted in reply. “You all had nothing but amazing food and staff.”

Two gave a special shout out for the deli’s fried chicken, Lisa Cianci posting, “Thank you for the great chicken” and Stephanie Verdetto asking if there was any fried chicken left as well.

In their final post, Hopatcong Deli and Market asked, “You didn’t think we’d leave you guys without a proper goodbye?”

On Friday, they suggested customers should come by “for our final round of Danny’s famous fried chicken,” reiterating it was “made fresh, from scratch always.”

Hopatcong Deli & Market was one of the Hopatcong businesses highlighted by Patch in 2020 that was open and participating in Small Business Saturday over that Thanksgiving weekend.
