Driver Hits Telephone Pole After Evading Officer: Sparta Police

Sparta Police say NJ State Police caught up with James Brickley of Lords Valley, Pennsylvania, who was driving with a suspended license.

SPARTA, NJ — A Christmas Eve chase led to a driver facing multiple charges, after he dodged police, then hit a telephone pole.

Police ended up charging James Brickley, 31 of Lords Valley, Pennsylvania, with eluding police, speeding, careless driving, reckless driving, failure to keep right, driving without a license, failing to stop for an emergency vehicle and driving while suspended.

Lt. John Lamon, a spokesperson with the Sparta Township Police Department said the pursuit began when a responding officer saw Brickley speed by him on Route 15 North at about 2 a.m. As the officer trailed him, Brickley was clocked at about 78 mph in a 55 mph zone. Instead of pulling over, Lamon said Brickley refused to stop, swerving into the southbound lane to drive around cars in front of him.

As Brickley headed for the Lafayette border, a Sparta dispatcher contacted the New Jersey State Police, Lamon detailed in a news release, with the State Police catching up with Brickley after he hit a telephone pole.
