Durban Avenue Students Send Holiday Wishes to Soldiers Abroad

An effort started as a Halloween good deed is continuing—and growing—to let troops know Hopatcong kids are thinking of them.

Durban Avenue Elementary School's students and staff are continuing their efforts to spread holiday joy with U.S. armed forces serving abroad, said Superintendent of Schools Cynthia Randina.

Back in October, Carolyn Moschella’s fourth grade class sent troops Halloween baskets to bring extra smiles their way. Now, they are at it again for the Christmas season, Randina said. This time, the class is expanding its efforts by recruiting other classes at Durban to  join them in sending cards to men and women who will spend the holidays on foreign shores and away from their families and friends.

Randina said the holiday cards were mailed to three different Forward Operating Bases in Afghanistan and addressed to Moschella's son, PFC Anthony Maniace, and to Specialist Ryan Dunn. The duo will make sure the greeting cards are distributed to soldiers at their military base.
