Upped Police Presence In Hopatcong Over TikTok Threat Challenge

Though police said Friday there was no specific threat to any school in the state, the department increased its presence at the schools.

HOPATCONG, NJ — Hopatcong Borough Police increased their presence within the school district on Friday, including after school, though they said there was “no credible threat” within the borough schools from a national TikTok challenge advocating violence.

The police department wrote on Facebook Friday morning about the “generic social media post which has apparently received nationwide attention,” on TikTok.

Though there is “no credible information to suggest this threat is specific to any school in New Jersey and it appears this is a nationwide trend,” in the morning Hopatcong Borough Police upped their presence at borough schools.

That presence, they said, would continue during and after school on Friday, “in an effort to alleviate any safety concerns.”

Schools throughout the country were on high alert over the TikTok challenge that suggested students "threaten gun violence at their schools on Friday, Dec. 17," according to a Patch report.

“The Hopatcong Borough Police Department has received intelligence regarding this post and continues to monitor the ongoing investigation,” the police department wrote on Friday.
