Man Charged In Sparta With DWI When His Car Stayed At Green Light
Alexander Weitzner, 27, of Summit, was charged after an officer sitting behind his car, reported that it continued to sit at a green light.
SPARTA, NJ — A man has been charged with DWI after his car remained at a standstill, though the light at the intersection “cycled green,” according to Sparta Police.
Spokesperson Lt. John Lamon for the police department, said in a news release, this past Saturday at about 4:30 a.m. the responding officer was behind a car on Route 15 at the intersection of Limecrest Road. The car only moved a few feet forward, after the light changed to green, remaining as it turned back to red. After the light became green, the driver proceeded, the officer followed the car, stopping it at the Houses Corner Road intersection.

Lamon said the responding officer smelled alcohol, with Alexander Weitzner, 27, admitting to the officer that he “had a few” alcoholic drinks and then reportedly told the officer he was in Florham Park and not Sparta, when the officer asked if Weitzner knew what town he was in.
Following breathalyzer tests, Weitzner was charged, in addition to DWI, with Careless Driving, failure to obey a traffic signal and obstructing the passage of other vehicles.
