Martha Stewart Contest Makes Finalist of Hopatcong Woman's Jewelry

Jennifer Colgan is hoping to garner votes for her jewelry company.

A Hopatcong woman is hoping to win a little more than attention for her business as she has made it to the final rounds of a contest hosted by Martha Stewart.

Jessie Girl Jewelry, the small business started out of Jennifer Colgan's home, has gained attention through the "American Made" contest being hosted on Stewart's website. The contest celebrates products and crafts handmade throughout the country.

Colgan's jewelry is personalized and hand-stamped letter by letter on sterling silver.

"In 2009, I was home with two little girls and looking for a way to support our very tight family budget," Colgan wrote in her submission post on the site. "I started selling beads and charms online, which did very well and provided for us for a few years. In 2012 I saw a need for personalized charms in the European bead bracelet category, so I decided to teach myself how to hand stamp metal. After MUCH trial and error, I began offering these personalized charms to my customers. They were a huge hit!"

Colgan wrote that the best business advice she has been given so far is to be flexible and open to new ideas.

To continue to advance in the contest, Jessie Girl Jewelry must receive more votes from viewers than other businesses in its category. The grand prize for the contest winner is $10,000 to grow their business a feature on Stewart's website and a trip for two to the American Made workshop in New York City.
