See The Highest, Lowest Property Taxes In Sussex County

SUSSEX COUNTY, NJ — There’s no doubt about it, property taxes can be a tough pill to swallow for homeowners in Sussex County. But depending on where you live in the county, the price can be extraordinarily high ... or way below the state average.

It's no secret that property taxes are one of the biggest gripes for people living in Sussex County, which was one of four in New Jersey with the highest median bills in the entire nation, according to a recent study from The Tax Foundation.

According to the latest state figures, the average property tax in New Jersey was $9,284 for a home valued at $335,623 last year.

Here is the 2021 list for Sussex County, ranked from highest to lowest.

1. Sparta Township - $12,416 average property tax on a $370,907 home
2. Green Township - $11,356 average property tax on a $313,039 home
3. Fredon Township - $10,107 average property tax on a $337,949 home
4. Andover Township - $9,934 average property tax on a $258,998 home
5. Byram Township - $9,240 average property tax on a $256,394 home
6. Lafayette Township - $8,845 average property tax on a $305,970 home
7. Newton Town - $8,319 average property tax on a $185,553 home
8. Ogdensburg Borough - $8,310 average property tax on a $220,737 home
9. Stanhope Borough - $8,283 average property tax on a $192,621 home
10. Wantage Township - $7,470 average property tax on a $261,178 home
11. Frankford Township - $7,377 average property tax on a $270,242 home
12. Hopatcong Borough - $7,286 average property tax on a $216,091 home
13. Franklin Borough - $7,183 average property tax on a $175,045 home
14. Stillwater Township - $7,021 average property tax on a $210,913 home
15. Hardyston Township - $6,988 average property tax on a $233,227 home
16. Hampton Township- $6,940 average property tax on a $231,573 home
17. Andover Borough - $6,918 average property tax on a $237,685 home
